This gun was the Taurus Model 617 Stainless Steel with a rubber grip. I must say after looking at these 3 guns I came away liking the Taurus Model 617 the best. I found that this guns grip frame seemed smaller then a S&W L frame and K frame and even closer in size when compared to the SP101. Yet this gun will take the H&K speed loaders for a S&W 686 Plus 7 shot. My 2nd choice was the Ruger SP101 but this guns double action pull was way too heavy for my likeing! Not to bash the SP101 because they are a great gun. But has anyone out there had any expercience with the Taurus Model 617 7 shot revolver with the 2 inch barrel? I would greatly appreciate any information offered and thanks in advance!!!
Ok folks I have a question of what you folks think of the Taurus 617. My wife picked it out a few years ago and hs only shot it a few times. She is starting to take a intrest in shooting now. The 617 is a 7 shot 357. She normally shoots 38 in it as the recoil from the 617 is alot even for me and she is half my size. This is her "house gun" when I'm away. My concern is that I have herd very mixed reports on the taurus and hate the thought of it going down at the worse possible time. It is not the only gun in the house but the other 2 hand guns are a gp100 with 5 inch barrel which she feels is to large and a sp101 that usually travels with me in bag/luggage as cant cc here. I'm really considering getting her something else. Of course I realize she needs to pick it out, but I geuss I'm asking if it was you would you trust a Taurus. Please dont think that I'm trying to start a brand war. Just with as bad as things are getting this has been weighing on my mind the past few days.
Make no mistake about it, the .357 Magnum revolver is not only at the top of the heap when it comes to stopping angry, animate targets, it’s also at the top of the heap in terms of versatility. Capable of firing accurate and light-recoiling .38 Special ammunition in addition to its heavy-duty primary .357 Magnum ammunition, a .357 Magnum revolver can handle anything from target shooting and plinking to the hunting of large game and providing personal defense.
