This weapon is a little pricier than my typical review. But don’t let the MSRP fool you; this weapon typically sells for $400.00 even at your local gun shop. I paid $375.00 for a brand new one in 2008. This is not your Daddy’s .38 revolver. This is a modern, well designed, powerful piece of engineering that will offer great service to you for many years. It has the typical revolver caveats, but handles them better than most of its competitors. Read on, dear friends…

When many people think of double action revolvers, they think of Smith and Wesson, Ruger, and somtimes Colt. There's another company out there though that is often unfairly overlooked due to people equating low price to low quality. That company is Taurus, and their guns are anything but cheap crap. Awhile back, I picked up my first modern double action revolver. The gun I went with was an older Taurus Model 66 chambered in the always classic 357 Magnum. I had heard the myths about Taurus' poor quality that are far too often repeated on gun forums by people who have never even handled a Taurus, so I felt I was taking a chance when I bought this gun. I'm glad I took that chance because it turned out to be a fantastic gun.

I have been away from shooting and revolvers for far too long and I am thinking about getting either a Taurus Model 66 or a Ruger GP100 in the 4” barrel range (S&W in this economy are simply out of my price range). Whichever I choose will start out as a range/home defense weapon and should I get my CCW it might be my carry weapon for awhile. I have only viewed the online at this point but both are really nice-looking weapons.
